I'm an ambitious and personable individual with experience in both customer service and software development. I'm currently based in Skipton and work on safeguarding software in schools. I enjoy travelling and my hobbies include cycling and canoeing. As a self-driven, forward-thinking individual, I constantly strive to embrace new techniques and technologies, understanding their impact and weaving them into new and existing projects alike. This has armed me with a vast array of tools, ensuring I am always prepared for the task at hand.
Working as a software developer for Safeguarding Software
After working on several smaller projects I moved on to software development full time. Working in a small development team on a rapidly growing Ruby on Rails product, I get to work on several interesting features and bring both internal and customer-based suggestions to life. In this role I get exposure to several frameworks/languages, including Ruby, HTML, CSS, jQuery, JavaScript, Git, SQL.
Working as a 2nd Line Support technician for Safeguarding Software
Alongside the day to day role of providing technical support to schools trying to establish a data connection between their servers and ours, I also worked on several development projects such as implementing an online booking system with automatic email notifications and outlook/google calendar integration, an internal documentation server with a built in CMS and WYSIWYG editor, improving the speed and SEO optimisation for the company website using techniques such as minifying CSS/JavaScript, compressing images and prioritising above-the-fold content as well as other general improvements to service.
Working as an analytical chemist
Whilst working here I helped improve general IT procedures as well as managing the company's CMS. I analysed Ferrous and Non-Ferrous materials to find out their chemical composition using wet chemistry techniques and machines such as the ICP (Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer) and AA (Atomic absorption spectroscopy). It was here where I developed my passion for IT and decided to go down the apprenticeship route to get in to the IT sector.
